She and Her Cat: Everything Flows Review

If you have a half hour to spare, give She and Her Cat: Everything Flows a quick watch. This mini series is only four short episodes each consisting of about six minutes. This refreshingly light slice-of-life anime definitely has a small place in my heart only after a short period of time.

The series is about a young girl named Miyu and her feline friend Daru. (Most of the story is told from Daru's POV) Since Miyu's father was not around during the majority of her adolescence, it was up to her mother to make sure that her daughter was not lonely. This is where Daru fits in perfectly. Her mother adopts the adorable black kitten into their home so that Miyu has a friend. At first Miyu, rejects the cat because his pelt is black and she (and with popular belief) thinks that a black cat is a symbol for bad luck. One day Daru is finally able to bring comfort to it's new owner when she has a tough day. And since then, Miyu and her cat are best friends.

The special thing about Daru is that he loves Miyu. He loves her unconditionally. He even loves the outside scents that she brings home with her. He cannot understand a word that she says to him, but in this furry guys' eyes she is perfection and is glad to be there for his owner in any way that he can be.

Half of this four part series reveals the important moments that led up to their friendship, and the other half shows how they stick together as Miyu grows up into an adult and is beginning to move out into the real world. There is a quick yet beautiful transformation of the two growing up together.

Because this is such a short watch, I do not want to discuss too in depth in the event that I just reveal the entire series. So I will leave you all with this: pet lover or not She and Her Cat: Everything Flows is such a joy and I really love the way that it was put together. I myself am a momma to two little kittens, Kili and Fili, and I love them unconditionally. I also would like to think that my cats appreciate me in the same way. Pets hold such a special place in our hearts and I love this homage to that. Let Daru share his love for Miyu with you, and I promise that you will feel so light-hearted in the best of ways.

P.S. I am not 100% on Daru being a male cat, but I like to think that he is.

P.S.S. There is also a film She and Her Cat: Their Standing Points that I hope to be able to watch soon. It doesn't unfortunately follow the charming life of Miyu and Daru, but instead with another woman and her fortunate cat Chobi. If you end up watching both, please let me know what you think!

Thanks for reading,

Taylor Stevens
